In order to succeed and reach your goals you first need to know what you want.
The first reason or the biggest reason you aren’t accomplishing your goals may be that you don’t know what you want. This sounds really easy. But too often many of us are just going with the flow. We are not making an actual executable plan for our lives. We are just making decisions as we come to forks in the road. We drift through life because we don’t know what we really want. We may have a vague idea, but we don’t REALLY know what we want.
There are so many choices today that it’s hard to know what you want.
I know I’ve had “shiny goal” syndrome. I’ve jumped from one idea to another. I’ve always thought other people had a better idea of what life should be. I thought other people knew more that I did.
But that’s just not true. Other people can’t tell you what YOU want in your life. Okay they can try. But other people really don’t know. They can’t make that decision for you.
Only you can make the decision of what you want in your life.
Each person’s journey is individual. It’s personal. It’s up to you to figure out what you want in your life.
Not what other people tell you that you should want in your life, but what you actually want in your life.
Now it’s time to think about what you DO want in your life and what you DON’T want in your life. What you don’t want is just as important and it’s the place that I began.
I made a list on a yellow legal pad of all the things I DID NOT want in my life. Each sentence started with I DON”T WANT…
You have to finish the sentence for yourself. Just keep writing until you can’t think of anything else.
When you are done with that flip the paper over. Then start with each point that you don’t want and figure out what you DO WANT.
The front of the page may say, “I don’t want to keep eating fast food for dinner every night.”
The back side of the page may say, “I do want to eat a healthy home cooked meal every night.”
Now you know two things. You don’t want to eat fast food for dinner so you need to make changes to stop doing that. And you know that you want to eat a healthy home cooked meal every night. Knowing what you do want you can make a plan to accomplish that. That could include meal planning, grocery shopping and meal prepping on the weekends. That could be to pay someone else to cook meals that you could put in your freezer. That could be to sign up for a cooking class.
Once you know what you don’t want it will tell you what you do want and you can start making changes and plans to have what you do want in your life. Okay that’s a very long sentence. But I hope you understand.
